  1. About ASTARTE MPEG Exporter™ 1.0.11

  3. ASTARTE MPEG Exporter™ (AME) is an export component for QuickTime 2.5
  4. which exports QuickTime movies as MPEG QuickTime movies. It can be used 
  5. from within any application which supports QuickTime export components 
  6. (e.g. MoviePlayer).

  8. IMPORTANT NOTE:
  9. ASTARTE MPEG Exporter is distributed as Shareware. Although commercial
  10. distribution is restricted, you may freely give it to your friends. If you 
  11. continue using it, please pay the $20 fee. Use the enclosed Register program
  12. to create a customized registration form, which you can mail or e-mail to
  13. Kagi Shareware (whose address is given on the form).

  15. ASTARTE MPEG Exporter registrations are handled by Kagi, a payment 
  16. processing service. To register, use the enclosed “Register” application to
  17. create a customized form, which you then send to Kagi, whose address is
  18. given on the form. The “How to Register” document gives detailed 
  19. step-by-step instructions.

  21. Alternatively, you can register via credit card using the Kagi Online Order

  25. Changes since version 1.0.5:
  26.  
  27. - reduced video data rate to 1065600L Bit/s. Multiplex errors should not occur
  28.    any more. If they come up they are indicated by

  31. - audio and video are in synch (NTSC only).
  32. - Works for QT 3.0. Please be sure that the 'Enable QuickTime 
  33. Exchange' check box is off. To do this, open the QT Settings
  34. control panel and choose the QuickTime Exchange popup menu. 
  35. Switch the 'Enable QuickTime Exchange' check box off, if it's on.

  38. System requirements:
  39. - Apple PowerMacintosh (sorry no 68k machines)
  40. - System 7.5 or later
  41. - QuickTime 2.5 or later
  42. - Thread Manager
  43. - The application must have at least 3 MB of free RAM for AME to function
  44.  
  45. – Playback requires the Apple QuickTime™ MPEG Extension or MPEG decoding
  46.    hardware.
  47.    (You can obtain the QuickTime playback software from quicktime.apple.com)

  50. Installation:
  51. Just drag ASTARTE MPEG Exporter onto your System Folder. It will be copied
  52. to the Extensions folder. Restart your computer; you should see the AME icon
  53. on the screen during startup.

  55. Usage:
  56. - Open MoviePlayer
  57. - Open any QuickTime movie with at least one video track.
  58. - Select "Export…" from the "File" menu
  59. - Select "Movie to MPEG" from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the dialog box, 
  60.    specify a name for the new file and click OK.
  61. - Choose either 30 fps (for NTSC) or 25 fps (for PAL) in the Options dialog that appears.
  62. - Go to sleep or go do something else (encoding takes a while.)

  64. Now you have a QuickTime movie on your hard disk which contains MPEG data.
  65. You can play this back with any QuickTime-aware application. Don't forget to make
  66. this movie "Make Movie Self Contained" (within "MoviePlayer") if you want to play
  67. it back on a non-Apple computer.

  69. Limitations:
  70. - only 30 fps (for NTSC) and 25 fps (for PAL) are supported
  71. - 384 pixels maximum width; 288 pixels maximum height. Larger movies are
  72.    scaled to that size.
  73. - width and height will be changed to a multiple of 16 pixels, if they are not already.
  74. - the data rate is always 176400 bytes/s (this corresponds to single-speed 
  75.    CD-ROM playback)
  76. - MIDI tracks will be ignored.
